The ILCA European Championships finished today in Hyères (FRA). After her silver medal at the World Championships in Texas (USA), Maud Jayet – one of the Swiss Sailing Team’s standout sailors – has won another silver medal at the Europeans. A superb result close to the Olympic waters, and very promising for the 2024 Olympic regattas in Marseille.
Hyères (FRA), 21 November 2022 – The ILCA European Championships were the last Olympic-class event of the season. Maud Jayet, at the front of the fleet throughout the competition, finally took the silver medal: a brilliant performance against 95 competitors. “It’s incredible, I’m extremely happy!” said Maud. “It’s a double after my silver medal last month; it’s really motivating for what comes next! The conditions were very difficult and changeable during this event. I’m happy I managed to sail well in very mixed conditions, in both strong and light winds.”

“With this performance, Maud confirms her abilities and shows her ambitions for 2024,” added Toni Otero, elite Head Coach. “It’s the best way to end the season before winter training.”
“A big thank you to our training partners, the National Performance Centre and our sponsors, who all contributed to this success,” concluded Mikael Lundh, coach of the ILCA 6 squad. The squad will now focus on winter training and return to racing in Europe next spring to start the pre-Olympic year, with the first opportunities to qualify Switzerland for the 2024 Games.
